Automation Technician with specialised qualifications

(1) CFC (trade-qualified) Automation technician specialising in construction and automation systems

The apprentice automation technician, specialising in construction and automation systems, will learn about the manufacture, control and installation of electrical panels and wiring of the entire electrical installation of our vehicles. They will also be able to maintain and repair the various electrical devices encountered in our workshops.

Training takes place at the technical workshops in Chernex.

Academic requirements:

• Voie secondaire générale (academic path preparing students for either an apprenticeship or further academic study).
• Good reasoning, logic and math skills.

Qualities sought:

• Technical creativity, manual expertise, ability to work with electricity, electronics and IT equipment, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team.

Length of apprenticeship: 4 years

• 2 years of basic training.
• 2 days of vocational classes per week for 2 years, reducing to 1 day per week after that. Classes held at the Centre Professionnel du Nord Vaudois (CPNV) in Yverdon.
• Apprentices can obtain a maturité professionnelle (a qualification that enables them to enter an haute école spécialisée corresponding to their field of study, equivalent to British A-level), by taking a 2nd day of classes during the final 2 years.
• 1 mid-term examination taken at the CPNV in Yverdon, at the end of the 2nd year.
• 2 years of specific in-house training with work placements in electronics and metalwork.
• 1 practical examination taken in the workshop, 1 theory examination testing general and professional knowledge.

The final grade is based on the results of the 3 examinations and marks achieved in class.

(2) CFC (trade-qualified) Automation Technician specialising in electrical machinery construction

Apprentice automation technicians specialise in constructing electrical machinery. They learn how to repair, maintain and troubleshoot electric motors, transformers and all components containing coils used in our vehicles. They also learn how to calculate and manufacture various gauges used in making coils, as well as how to install and test motors and parts containing coils.

Training takes place at the technical workshops in Chernex.
